21 Tasks To Get More Photography Clients

When you’re running a photography business, it’s easy to feel like you never have quite enough hours in the day, isn’t it? But here’s the good news: when you take a few small actions each day, they quickly add up and make a real impact. In this post, 21 tasks to get more photography clients, I’m sharing simple, practical ideas that professional photographers can easily weave into their routines.

With a bit of consistency, you’ll soon see these small efforts driving more enquiries and engagement to your business. Think of these as little building blocks—together, they’ll help you build the momentum you’re looking for!

Day 1

Partner With Local Businesses For In-Store Displays – This can be good for all kinds of photography niches. Reach out to complementary local businesses, like boutique clothing stores, cafes or bridal shops, where your target clients often shop. offer to create an eye-catching display of some of your work, maybe if you’re selling pieces donate a % of each sale to a local charity, or propose a collaborative photoshoot featuring their products and business that you can use on your social channels. For instance, a family photographer could work with a children’s boutique to showcase a beautiful family session. Leave some business cards or a small sign with a QR code linking to your contact form so potential clients can connect with you. Wedding photographers, don’t just think of bridal shops & florists, maybe approach local family-run jewellers or even an independent cake maker.

Day 2

Host a ‘Behind the Scenes’ Social Media Series – What may seem ordinary and ‘just another day’ to you, people find interesting, so give your audience a glimpse into the magic of your successful photography business behind the camera by sharing a ‘behind the scenes’ series on the social media or Facebook Page. Choose a theme, like a week in your life as a photographer or the process of preparing for a photoshoot. Capture short videos and/or images that show you setting up a shoot, preparing props or even the post process and editing. This type of content adds a personal touch, builds trust and shows potential clients what to expect if they book a session with you. People love to see the ‘person behind the camera’, so this kind of content really engages well with your audience and encourages them to follower you to engage with your posts.

Day 3

Launch a Client VIP Club for Perks and Discounts – Create a VIP members club or referral program that offers past clients exclusive perks, like early access to booking seasonal promotions, a free mini-session after three full bookings, or a discount on a family portrait photography session booked annually. This could be as simple as monthly email newsletters that only your VIP subscribers receive sharing your special offers for the month ahead. By making clients feel valued and important, you are encouraging repeat bookings, which are invaluable for word-of-mouth and loyalty. Plus, it’s a great way to show appreciation to your client base, and grow your community.

Day 4

Offer a ‘Portfolio Builder’ Discount for a New Service – If you’re launching a new service, product or session, like branding photos, maternity portraits or mini sessions, start by offering a portfolio-building discount to attract clients whilst creating examples for future marketing. Advertise this limited offer on your social, in your email marketing campaigns and website, explaining that this is a new product or service and you’re building your portfolio and offering this special price for the first [x] number of bookings. Be sure to state that places are limited and create a sense of urgency. It is always better to release a small amount of slots first, then it you decide to release more then you can recreate the sense of urgency once again. This will build your portfolio, build your confidence in this new product or service, and build your email list.

Day 5

Start a ‘Client Feature’ Social Media Series – Celebrate your amazing clients by showcasing their photoshoots on your social media platforms. Each post could feature one of your favourite images, a story behind the session, or even a short quote from the client about the experience they had. Not only does this build your social proof but it also encourages clients to share these posts with their friends and family members helping you expand your reach. This is a way to create engaging, feel-good content whilst building your online presence and encouraging word-of-mouth referrals.

Day 6

Host a Local Photography Workshop – Hosting a local workshop is a brilliant way to engage with your local community. Whether it’s a beginner photography class, a smartphone photo tips session, or a creative portrait workshop, your expertise will naturally attract potential clients. It doesn’t have to be complex – consider a free mini-session at a community event, or a paid class for small groups. By positioning yourself as a helpful resource, you build relationships, expand your network, and increase awareness of your services.

Day 7

Partner with Wedding of Event Planners – Reach out to local wedding and event planners, offering to collaborate on styled shoot or to photography their events at a reduced rate initially. These planners are often inclose contact with potential clients who may need photography services, and your collaboration gives them a trusted photographer to recommend. It’s a powerful referral source that can be especially effective if you specialise in weddings, portraits or events.

That’s your first 7 days of 21 tasks to get more photography clients – have you noticed any increase in enquires yet?

You can share some of the images on your social media accounts, and similarly, on day 5, you’ll find some of your images will be shared with family and friends. You might even get the opportunity to create a unique display at the event, be asked to partake in further local public events which will further solidify your presence in the community.
